If you want to Golf Scotland you will find that there are many ancient golf courses to play, one of which is Carnoustie , with the parish records recording a game of gouff being played on the "Barry Links" in 1560, but more recently, on a number of occasions, this course has been host to the Scottish Open, with many of the worlds top golfers having played on this excellent links course, you too can enjoy the fresh sea breeze whilst emulating your golfing hero (or maybe even going one better).
The area provides reasonably priced accommodation in town and even on the edge of the courses here at Carnoustie as you can see in the image above, so you wont have far to go in the morning, simply enjoy your hearty breakfast and then step out of the door onto the links, to tee off for the round of your life. For the non golfers in your party, don't worry, you are only a short drive from Dundee home of " Captain Scott's famous polar exploration ship Discovery" there is plenty to do and see with museums art galleries and lots of places to shop, like the Overgate shopping centre. Whatever your tastes you will find plenty to see and do, even if you simply wish to drive around and photograph the scenery, you will find plenty of spectacular views to keep you snapping away for days.
A little further east you will find the most revered and famous "Gleneagles" courses, set in beautiful Perthshire, Scotland, these courses will thrill, excite, challenge and entertain you, whether you choose to play the Kings, the Queens, the Medal or the Wee course you will be walking in the footsteps of past masters and current champions. The forerunner to the modern day Ryder Cup was first played here in 1921 with the Hotel being finished behind schedule in 1923, the Kings course was completed in 1918 with the Queens course, originally designed to be the women's course, close on it's heels. The Kings course was officially opened in 1919 and many famous competitions have been held there since among which are the Scottish Open, MacDonald's WPGA Championship of Europe and the PGA Cup matches.
If golf is not your thing don't worry there is lots to see and do around Gleneagles and the wild life is amazing, with shooting, fishing, pony trekking, hill walking and much more, to keep you amused and enthralled for days. You could try your hand at motor racing, at the knockhill circuit, which is only a short drive from Gleneagles and where you can pay for a lesson from a proffessional race car driver, or even take your seat to watch the experts battle it out around this challenging hillside track.
One of our most famous courses is St Andrews, with the well known bridge at the 18th in the foreground and renowned as having the widest fairways in the golfing world, more than 100 yd's wide on the 1st and 18th holes, yet even the champions can still find the road on the right as did Ian Baker-Finch of Australia in recent times, when teeing off on the first and right under the windows of the Royal & Ancient Clubhouse with many of his challengers looking on, but don't worry, you will be too busy worrying about landing in the Swilcan Burn to even notice the road. Your footsteps will follow all the great names in the history of golf over the last 400 years when you cross that bridge on the way to the last hole. With luxurious accommodation and the ancient town to visit you will have the experience of a lifetime.
